Unitree H2 Plus ULTIMATE-J Humanoid Robot

A humanoid that stands 1820 mm tall is only as useful as what it can do at the end of its arms. The Unitree H2 Plus ULTIMATE-J Humanoid Robot answers that with two BrainCo Revo 3 U21 hands, each with 21 degrees of freedom, and a wrist camera on each side so the robot can watch its own work up close. It is a platform for teams that care more about how a hand moves than about how it feels.

Background

Unitree and the H2 Plus lineage

Unitree Robotics is known for legged and humanoid machines that research groups and integrators use to study locomotion, manipulation and embodied AI. The H2 Plus is a full-size member of that family. It shares one body across many configurations, and the configurations differ mainly in the hands and in the onboard computing.

The ULTIMATE series takes the H2 Plus body and fits it with a specific dexterous hand. The family includes H2 PLUS SMART and ULTIMATE A through ULTIMATE N, each with its own hand package, from DEX1-1 Plus and DEX3-1 to Revo 2, Inspire, WUJI Hand 2 and Sharpa Wave. ULTIMATE J is the one fitted with the Revo 3 U21 hand. If you are still choosing a hand, the Unitree H2 Plus category lists the related models side by side.

Positioning and key technology

The ULTIMATE-J pairs a 31-degree-of-freedom body with an NVIDIA Jetson Thor T5000 AI module. That module delivers up to 2070 TFLOPS sparse FP4 and carries 128 GB of LPDDR5X memory on a 256-bit bus at 273 GB/s. Alongside it sit two Intel processors: a Core i5 for platform functions and a Core i7 reserved for user development. Platform tasks and your own code therefore run on separate hardware.

The hands are the defining choice. The BrainCo Revo 3 U21 is a direct-drive hand with 21 DoF, built for complex movements, and it has no tactile feedback. Senyun SHF3L wrist cameras are fitted with it. This makes the ULTIMATE-J a vision-led manipulation platform rather than a touch-led one.

What makes the ULTIMATE-J different from the other hand versions?

The difference is a trade, and it is stated plainly in the specification: this hand has 21 DoF and a direct-drive design for complex movements, and it has no tactile feedback. Versions such as ULTIMATE C DEX3-1 Tactile, ULTIMATE E DEX5-1P Tactile, ULTIMATE G Revo 2 Touch and ULTIMATE I Inspire E2 Tactile are named in the family for their touch sensing. The ULTIMATE-J is not one of them. If your experiments depend on feeling contact, look at those versions. If they depend on how finely a hand can shape itself around an object, this one deserves a close look.

The wrist cameras are the other half of the answer. With a camera on each wrist, the robot sees the object from the hand's own point of view while the head stereo camera, with its 140° horizontal and 102° vertical field of view, keeps the whole scene in sight. Together they give a vision-based team a great deal to work with, without needing a touch layer.

How does the ULTIMATE-J compare with the Standard and SMART versions?

The body is shared across the family, so the questions are about the hands and the computing. The Unitree H2 Plus Standard Humanoid Robot is the base platform, and the Unitree H2 Plus SMART Humanoid Robot is the version named for stronger onboard AI. The ULTIMATE-J specifies the Jetson Thor T5000 together with the Revo 3 U21 hands, so it joins heavy onboard inference to a dexterous, camera-equipped pair of hands in one machine. Each of the other versions has its own figures, and none of them apply to this one.

Who is the Unitree H2 Plus ULTIMATE-J for?

University and corporate research labs are the clearest fit. A team studying manipulation, imitation learning or vision-guided grasping gets a full-size body, a high-performance AI module and a separate Intel Core i7 for its own software, with interfaces such as CAN, RS-485, GMSL and Gigabit Ethernet for attaching further equipment.

System integrators and technology developers will also find it useful when they need to show a prototype that handles objects with real finesse. Organizations evaluating physical AI can use it to judge what a humanoid with a dexterous hand does in their own setting.

It is less suited to anyone who needs touch sensing in the hand. For a simpler starting point, consider the Unitree H2 Plus range or the Unitree H2 Plus ULTIMATE A Humanoid Robot, which uses a different hand package.

What is the Unitree H2 Plus ULTIMATE-J used for?

  1. Dexterous manipulation research. Study how 21-DoF hands handle varied objects and tasks.
  2. Vision-guided grasping. Use the wrist cameras and head stereo camera to plan and correct a grasp.
  3. Embodied AI development. Run large models on the Jetson Thor T5000 and test them on a physical body.
  4. Human-robot interaction studies. Work with a full-size humanoid in spaces built for people.
  5. Teleoperation and data collection. Gather movement data through the available interfaces for training and analysis.
  6. Teaching and demonstration. Show students and visitors what current humanoid hardware can do.

Summary

The ULTIMATE-J is built on one clear idea: put the effort into how the hands move and how the robot sees. Dexterous hands, wrist cameras, a wide head camera and a Jetson Thor T5000 make it a strong platform for vision-led manipulation, while the lack of tactile feedback is a deliberate trade that you should weigh against your own research. If that trade suits your work, this page is the starting point.
