Topsky 6X6 differential wheeled robot chassis

Most robots are judged by what sits on top of them, yet in a forest or on a mountain slope the platform underneath decides whether the work gets done at all. The Topsky 6X6 differential wheeled robot chassis, model TIGER-04, is built around that idea: six driven wheels, six independent suspension arms and a body sealed to IP67, offered as a foundation for the equipment you choose to mount on it.

The product is available through this page, by quotation.

Background

Topsky and the unmanned ground vehicle tradition

TOPSKY is a maker of ground robots and related equipment, and the TIGER-04 sits within its range of unmanned ground vehicles. Unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs, grew out of a simple need: sending a machine into places where a person should not go, or cannot go easily, and keeping the operator at a distance. Over the years the field has split into compact tracked units, wheeled platforms and larger carriers, each suited to different ground and different loads.

Within that field, a bare chassis plays a particular role. It is not a finished robot with one fixed job. It is the mobile base that an integrator, a research team or an equipment owner fits out for a specific task. You can browse the wider family on the UGVs category page, or see the other products under Topsky.

Where the TIGER-04 fits

The TIGER-04 is a six-wheel, six-motor platform. Each wheel carries its own hub motor, and each wheel hangs from its own swing arm with a hydraulic damping shock absorber. Steering is differential: the wheels on one side turn at a different speed from the wheels on the other side, so the chassis turns in place without a steering linkage. It is meant for forests, mountains and other harsh outdoor environments.

Putting the motors in the wheels removes the long drivetrain of a conventional vehicle. Power goes from a ternary lithium battery to six 96V high-precision DC hub motors, and the number of mechanical parts between the battery and the ground stays small. Low-pressure tires add to the stability, because they flex over uneven ground instead of bouncing across it.

What makes the TIGER-04 suited to rough ground?

Three features work together: the drive, the suspension and the steering. Each is simple to describe, and the combination is what separates a field platform from a wheeled cart.

First, the drive. With six hub motors rated at 3kw each, every wheel can push on its own. If one wheel loses grip on loose soil or wet leaves, the other five keep working. The 96V DC motors are high-precision units, which matters when the operator is steering a heavy machine through a narrow gap.

Second, the suspension. Each of the six wheels sits on a single swing arm with its own hydraulic damping shock absorber, so one wheel can rise over a rock or drop into a rut while the others stay planted. The chassis offers 280mm of ground clearance and can cross obstacles up to 300mm high and barriers up to 400mm wide. It is rated for a maximum climbing angle of 35°. These figures describe the terrain envelope you can plan around.

Third, the steering. Differential steering in place means the chassis can pivot where it stands. On a forest track or a narrow mountain path, where there may be no room for a turning circle, this is a practical advantage. It also removes steering linkages that could be damaged by branches or stones.

The body is built from alloy steel, carbon steel square tube and aluminum alloy, and the robot body is protected to IP67. For an owner, that combination suggests a platform meant for outdoor work, not a lab bench.

What is included and how is it controlled?

The box contains a remote control terminal (one set) and a dedicated supporting tool box (one piece). Three control options are available: the MC6C, a handheld remote control and a customized follower bracelet. The follower bracelet suggests a mode in which the chassis keeps pace with a person on foot, which can be useful for carrying equipment over long distances. Tell us which option you prefer when you request your quotation.

The cabin, with a maximum size of 1350mm by 350mm by 528mm, is the space on the chassis for your equipment. With 500kg of maximum load, there is room to plan a significant payload, though the exact mounting arrangement should be agreed through the quotation.

Who is the TIGER-04 for?

The TIGER-04 suits buyers who already know what they want to carry and need a dependable way to carry it across difficult ground. Integrators and robotics developers form the first group: they can build a sensor, tool or cargo system on a ready-made mobile base instead of designing locomotion from scratch.

Research institutes and training programs are a second group. A six-motor platform with a defined size, weight and load rating gives students and engineers a realistic base for field experiments in autonomy, mapping or remote operation.

Organizations that work outdoors in remote terrain form a third group: forestry operators, mountain-area services and utilities that need to move equipment where roads do not reach. For a differently configured Topsky platform, compare the Topsky Tianlong Tantu 4W or the Topsky All-terrain fire fighting robot, each of which has its own specification and purpose.

What is the TIGER-04 used for?

  1. Forest operations: a rugged carrier for sensors or equipment on uneven woodland ground.
  2. Mountain terrain work: a platform that can handle slopes up to 35° under remote control.
  3. Payload carrying: a mobile base for loads up to 500kg across ground that defeats ordinary wheeled carts.
  4. Remote inspection: a chassis that keeps the operator at a distance from harsh outdoor environments.
  5. Robot development: a base for integrators who add their own tools, sensors or cabin equipment.
  6. Follow-me transport: with the customized follower bracelet option, a carrier that accompanies a person on foot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 6X6 mean on this chassis?

It means six wheels, all of them driven. Each wheel has its own hub motor, rated at 3kw.

How does the chassis steer?

It uses differential steering in place. The wheels on the two sides run at different speeds, so the chassis can turn where it stands.

How heavy is it and what can it carry?

The chassis weighs 550kg and has a maximum load of 500kg.

What obstacles can it cross?

The maximum obstacle crossing height is 300mm, the maximum barrier width is 400mm or less, the ground clearance is 280mm and the maximum climbing angle is 35°.

Is the TIGER-04 protected against water and dust?

The robot body has a protection level of IP67.

How is it controlled?

Three options are available: the MC6C, a handheld remote control and a customized follower bracelet. A remote control terminal is included in the box.

Where can I buy the TIGER-04 and what does it cost?

You can request it through this page, by quotation. The cost depends on configuration and destination, so no price is shown here; the quotation sets it out.

Summary

The TIGER-04 answers a question that comes before any payload: how do you move reliably over rough ground? Six hub motors, six independent swing arms with hydraulic dampers, in-place differential steering and an IP67 body give it a defined envelope, with 500kg of load, 15km/h and a 35° climb. What you build on top is up to you. For specifications, control options and a quotation, this page is the starting point.
