Unitree G1 EDU Combat Boxing Humanoid Robot

A humanoid built for the ring instead of the lab bench, the combat edition of Unitree's G1 family pairs a toughened body with dedicated fighting motion control. It still works as a full development platform when the gloves come off.

Unitree G1 EDU Combat Boxing Humanoid Robot

Most humanoid robots are taught to avoid contact; this one is prepared for it. The Unitree G1 EDU Combat Boxing Humanoid Robot takes a research-grade platform and fits it for the ring, with a reinforced waist, upgraded shell and hardware, dedicated combat motion control, and the gloves and helmet to go with it. It still keeps the development tools a lab expects.

The product is available through this page, by quotation.

Background

Unitree and the G1 family

Unitree Robotics builds the G1 humanoid in several versions, from the G1 BASIC and G1 PRO to the EDU line: EDU STANDARD, EDU PLUS, EDU ULTIMATE and EDU PROFESSIONAL. The EDU versions are aimed at teams that want to program the robot, not only operate it. You can see the wider family in the Unitree G1 category, and other university and laboratory platforms in Research Robots.

The Boxing version, also written G1 EDU Boxing or Combat, is a separate configuration inside that family. It is not a software mode. It is a distinct build, and that matters when you plan a purchase.

How the Boxing version is positioned

The Boxing version is based on EDU PLUS. That base brings 7-DoF arms and a 3-DoF waist, for increased mobility in complex applications. On top of it, Unitree reinforced the waist structure with IM6010-R32 motors and upgraded the shell and hardware to improve overall durability.

The robot also carries dedicated motion control systems for combat scenarios. It retains all functions of the G1 EDU Plus and supports secondary development. In practice, a team gets a machine suited to UFB and ICRA WBCD competitions that can still serve as a normal development robot between events.

What makes the Boxing version different from the G1 EDU Plus?

On paper the two share a great deal. The Boxing version is built on EDU PLUS and keeps every EDU Plus function, so the arms, the waist degrees of freedom and the secondary development support carry over. The differences are the parts that take punishment and the behavior that drives them.

First, the waist. A boxer turns through the hips and torso, and the waist takes much of the load when a robot throws a punch or is hit. Unitree reinforced that structure with IM6010-R32 motors. Second, the shell and hardware were upgraded to improve overall durability. Third, the robot is equipped with dedicated motion control systems for combat scenarios. Finally, the package includes protective equipment: two boxing gloves and one boxing helmet.

There is one point to settle before ordering. G1 EDU Plus cannot be upgraded to the Boxing Version. If you already own an EDU Plus, this is not a retrofit path. If you are buying new, the reverse works in your favor: the Boxing version can be used as a standard G1 EDU Plus. If you only need the base platform, the Unitree G1 Edu Plus Humanoid Robot with Fake Hands (G1EDU-U2) is the sibling to look at.

Is the Boxing version still a development platform?

Yes. Many buyers worry that a combat build means a locked, single-purpose machine. It is not: the robot retains all functions of G1 EDU Plus and supports secondary development. The EDU line carries a Jetson Orin NX 16GB rated at 100 TOPS, a depth camera and 3D LiDAR, and Wi-Fi 6 with Bluetooth 5.2.

That combination suits a team that must deliver a competition entry and also keep research going. Perception, locomotion and whole-body control can be developed on the same hardware that goes into the ring. The 9000 mAh smart battery has a quick-release design, which helps when a session needs a fast swap.

Who is the G1 EDU Combat Boxing Humanoid Robot for?

Competition teams are the clearest group. The robot is suitable for UFB and ICRA WBCD competitions, so a university club, a company team or a robotics academy preparing an entry has a platform made for the purpose, with the gear already in the package.

Research labs studying balance, contact and recovery form a second group. Combat puts a humanoid through impacts and fast changes of stance, which is a demanding test for whole-body control. A lab can use the dedicated combat motion control as a starting point and extend it through secondary development.

Exhibition and education buyers are a third group. Two gloves are included for training demonstrations and motion testing, which makes the robot a strong draw at a stand, a classroom or a public event.

Buyers who do not intend to fight should look elsewhere in the range. If your work is manipulation or general research, a sibling such as the Unitree G1 Ultimate A Humanoid Robot with 3 Finger Hands (G1EDU-U3) or one of the Pro versions, for example the Unitree G1 Edu Pro A U9 Humanoid Robot (G1EDU-U9), may fit better. Ask us at quotation and we will compare the versions against your plan.

What is the G1 EDU Combat Boxing Humanoid Robot used for?

  1. Competition entries. Fielding a robot in UFB and ICRA WBCD events.
  2. Combat motion research. Studying balance, strikes and recovery with the dedicated combat motion control systems.
  3. Secondary development. Writing and testing your own software, since all G1 EDU Plus functions and development support are retained.
  4. Training demonstrations. Using the two included gloves to show motions to a team, a class or an audience.
  5. Motion testing. Checking new movement routines and durability under repeated contact with the reinforced waist and upgraded shell.
  6. General EDU Plus work. Running the robot as a standard G1 EDU Plus when no match is scheduled.
